About

Vegan Bistro Jangara is a fully vegan restaurant in central Harajuku, opened in 2021 by Kyushu Jangara, a small ramen chain that started in Akihabara and is now approaching its 40th year. The bistro sits on the second floor directly above the original (non vegan) Kyushu Jangara Harajuku branch. The menu is wide for a vegan spot: ramen, grilled burgers with four sauces on the side, soy meat teppanyaki plates, curry, quesadillas, gyoza, karaage, and desserts. The ramen draws on the chain's Kyushu roots, with vegan versions of their tonkotsu style bowls using thin, egg free noodles and a rich soy based broth. About 70% of the clientele is international visitors, and the restaurant is named after the Hirado Jangara Festival in Nagasaki.

Good to know

  • Ramen runs ¥1,280 to ¥1,450. The Karabon (spicy tonkotsu style) and the grilled burger (¥1,350) with guacamole, salsa, tartar sauce, and house cheese sauce on the side both draw regulars. Garlic-free options available.
  • Gluten free noodles prepared using shared utensils and water; not suitable for celiac.
  • The entrance is behind a door with a green sign, accessed via a nondescript elevator next to a Family Mart near Takeshita Street. Second floor.
  • Open daily 11:00 to 22:00 (last order 21:00). When full, the non-vegan Kyushu Jangara downstairs carries a vegan ramen option.
