About

Tsuminaki Mapo Tofu (罪無き麻婆豆腐, roughly "guiltless mapo tofu") is a fully vegan restaurant that does one thing and builds an entire menu around it: plant based mapo tofu. Originally opened in Kameido, it has since relocated and expanded, with branches in the Nishishinbashi/Shimbashi area, Roppongi Hills, and a newer Toranomon main branch that opened in February 2025. The menu offers several mapo tofu styles at varying spice levels (standard, red, black, white sesame, and a cheese curry version), all 100% plant based. The approach leans more Japanese in its seasoning than traditional Sichuan, with a slightly milder, more approachable heat that can be adjusted with tableside spices. About half the clientele is international visitors, half Japanese. The spaces are small and casual, more nightlife adjacent than fine dining.

Good to know

  • The Gozen set lets you sample all four mapo tofu types alongside gyoza. Noodles can be substituted for rice; portions can be sized up to large or extra large at no charge.
  • Desserts include matcha and cacao tiramisu; the savory menu gets more attention.
  • Craft beer available.
  • Food arrives fast, often within a couple of minutes. Orders placed via food ticket machine.
  • Open Monday through Sunday 11:00 to 15:00, 17:00 to 22:00. Closes when food runs out.
